Denise takes on Kenya in aid of Compassion Charity.

This June, Etherington’s Director of Retail, Denise Pascoe will be walking 26 miles though Kenya in aid of the Christian based children’s charity, Compassion.

Compassion, have been working to support some of the world’s most vulnerable children for over 65 years, and through the encouragement of individual sponsors helps them to break the cycle of poverty. The charity offers various ways forindividuals to get involved, from bake-sales and quiz nights, to Marathon’s, both at home and abroad.

Denise has chosen to challenge herself to the latter, undertaking a ‘Muskathlon’ a 42km adventure that you can walk, run or cycle in the heart of Kenya. Denise will be walking through the countries harsh, beautiful landscape, visiting many of the villages’ that benefit from the charity’s work along the way.

With an aim of raising £10,000 in sponsorship which will sponsor at least 10 children’s heath, welfare and education, Denise has already started her personal journey for the challenge. Getting into shape with Joe Wicks’ 90 Day Plan and through High Intensity Interval Training, to build up her strength – she is now clocking up the miles along Cornwall’s beautiful coastline with her dog Lallana, ready for her walk in Kenya.

Denise said: “In a world where a child dies from poverty-related causes every three seconds, it’s so easy to feel there is nothing we can do. However, Compassion gives someone like me, a woman of almost 65 years of age, the opportunity to give back to the world, and help to save and improve the lives of those less fortunate.” she continues: “I already sponsor two children, Aleyda whose 14 years old in Bolivia, Florence whose 7 years old in Ghana and with my church we are sponsoring a little boy called Lemayan in Kenya, who I will get to meet in June”.
