Cheese Please!
Looking to buy speciality cheese in Cornwall? Our award-winning Farm Shop now has the addition of a yummy deli counter, filled with antipasti delights, charcuterie and of course, cheese. Take a look at a few of our favourites below.
Caerphilly
Originally produced in the South Wales town of the same name, Caerphilly is matured to enhance the lovely creamy texture and a distinctive tang. Known as “the crumblies”, it is said that the cheese was specially made for coal miners, as its tough texture and shallow height made it easy for them to eat with bare hands, and the salty moist cured helped to replenish lost minerals.
Colston Bassett
The taste of this mellow and creamy blue cheese is unrivalled throughout the world. The perfect stilton from Colston Bassett is a rich, creamy colour with blue veining spread throughout and is melt in the mouth perfection.
Montagnolo Affine
Crowned as Supreme Champion at the 2012 international Cheese Awards and Winner of the World Cheese Award in 2013, this decorated cheese is deliciously laced with fine blue culture that provides its distinctive slightly sweet aroma and delicate texture.
Ossau-Iraty
Said to be one of the first cheeses ever produced, this unpasteurised sheep’s milk cheese is created in the Iraty region of France and is aged for over four months. Made from the milk of the black-faced Manech sheep Ossau-Iraty is made from an unchanged recipe that is over 150 years old. With a distinctive golden crust and rich interior, with hints of caramel, it is best enjoyed with a large glass of red wine.
Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar
Matured in the famous Wookey Hole Caves of Somerset this delicious cheddar is aged for 12months. The Cave’s unique atmosphere provides the ideal conditions to create a cheddar that is rich, tangy and mature combined with earthy and nutty flavours.
Brebirousse D’Argental
Made in Lyon, this gooey cheese is the ultimate crowd pleaser. The soft, creamy cheese is buttery sweet, with a hint of salt, grassiness and wild mushroom flavour. Enjoy with thick slices of ham on crusty baguette, or with dried apricots and a dollop of earthy chestnut honey, alongside a glass of bubbles.
