Etherington’s Emma in the top 50 at London Marathon

Etherington’s Account Leader Emma, was among thousands pounding the capital’s streets last Sunday, running in her first ever London Marathon and coming in the top 50 women – with a personal best time of just 2hours 56 minutes!

Emma, who runs for the Hayle Runners Club had been training hard for her first ever London marathon, even partaking in a two-week running ‘holiday’ to Kenya – which enabled her to train under harsher environmental conditions. Including 25-degree heat, which prepared her for the warmer than expected conditions on the day.

In the sixteen weeks leading up to the event, Emma clocked up more than 1,200 miles and nearly 150 hours of running. Running twice a week with her club Hayle Runners, Emma is no stranger to competition, and often finds herself crossing the finishing line in record times at many county events.

Emma says: “The crowds were incredible, nothing will ever beat the unbelievable atmosphere. My favourite moment was running across Tower Bridge and knowing I was nearly half-way. To run a sub-3 time on my first London Marathon and be the 45th woman crossing the finish line, as well as knocking 10 minutes off my personal best is unbelievable – I’ve already strapped my running shoes back on and am continuing to find my Reason to Run.”

Managing Director Mark Etherington said: “We’re all extremely proud of Emma, she has worked hard for this achievement and she fully deserves to be recognised as one of the day’s top runners. A diet of our fantastic meat and the odd pasty seems to have been the running fuel she needed to complete the marathon in such a great time”.
